Meet the Trailblazers

Amy McGuckin

Secretary

Hello, I'm Amy McGuckin; I am 20 years old and I'm the Trailblazers secretary. I was home schooled all the way up through high school, and I loved every minute of it. I am a parishioner and a member of the choir of Assumption Grotto parish in Detroit. And I have been playing the flute for 4 years now; music is a huge part of my life. I am currently pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist Assistant, at Henry Ford Community College. I would also like to continue on to become Pediatric  Physical Therapist, I love children and I work well with them, so I think that I would do a good job in that department. But opportunities have not yet presented themselves for that, so, we’ll see if that’s what God wants me to do.

I am one of the pilgrims going to World Youth Day with Trailblazers this July, this will be my first pilgrimage with Trailblazers and I’m very excited about it. God Bless!

Virginia Rybicki

Senior Compass Newsletter Editor

Hi, my name is Virginia Rybicki! I am nineteen and currently attending Oakland University where I am studying Creative Writing. My family of eight and I attend Sts. Cyril & Methodius Slovak Catholic Church. I traveled with Trailblazers to Gaudalupe, Mexico and it was a trip I will never forget. After the trip, I accepted the task of re-creating Trailblazers e-newsletter, The Compass. I was the editor of The Compass for several years. Unfortunately, I had to handover the task to someone else once I started going to Oakland. However, I still write articles for The Compass and am enjoying whatever I can do to help out Trailblazers! I look forward to seeing you at future Trailblazers events/pilgrimages!

Jonathan Alvarez

Compass Newsletter Editor

Hello there! My name is Jonathan, and I'm 15 years old. I am from Mexico; but living for the time being in Detroit. I strongly like home schooling, and am the proud older brother of my five siblings. I am delighted to be able to write for the Compass and I always look forward to editing for you!

Fr. Paul Ward

Founder and Director

I was ordained for the Archdiocese of Detroit in 2004, and my vocation to the priesthood is the best thing God has ever done for me. With the help of some of my seminarian friends, I founded Trailblazers while still a student for the priesthood at the seminary for World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto. I'm convinced that the future of the Church depends on our young people today, who are searching for Christ like never before. My parishes now are three, St. Joseph, St. Josaphat and Sweetest Heart of Mary, in inner city Detroit near downtown; these parishes surround and include Eastern Market. I have been the one who has seen the most when it comes to the spiritual growth of our pilgrims, and it has been a privilege to serve these magnificent young hearts as a priest. May it please God to continue to pile on the graces in this adventurous and magnificent apostolate. You can find my bio and other writings on my web site: www.fatherpaul.org
