Hi All,
This first weekend in Advent has been a busy one for me. Saturday night, my family and I went to see the new Nativity movie. I would highly recommend it everyone.
I had heard that some people didn’t like the way certain characters where portrayed, particularly the Virgin Mary. I myself thought they did a good job with her. Her simpleness seemed to help me relate to her more. Sometimes, when she is portrayed as some great woman, which I’m not saying she wasn’t, it seems hard for me to relate to her on a personal level. This movie however helped me to do that.
One of the characters that I thought was portrayed the best was Joseph. Although he probably was older then he appeared in the movie, I don’t really think it mattered. Either way, it was obvious that he was a man of great honor. My sisters and I both commented on this after the movie. Our mother told us, “Girls, find a man just like him.”
Another well portrayed figure in the Nativity story is one who is often ignored. King Herod is shown as a man who was vain, cruel and merciless, but he was also very much afraid. What he feared was the ancient prophesy of the Jews of the coming of the Messiah. Such was Herod’s fear that even suspects his own son of plotting against him. (From the look on his son’s face at time, I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually was thinking about plotting against his father.)
On the
whole, the Nativity is one movie that
deserves your support.
God Bless,
