Fellow Trailblazers,
There is no doubt that our society is one that is disgustingly obsessed
with sex. It is every where and it almost impossible to ignore. Many
young people have fallen into the lie of sex outside of marriage. I
often wonder who I can look as an example to resist this sexual
society. Two young saints come to my mind, one whose feast day is March
9. St. Dominic Savio and St. Maria Goretti. Both died young and both
believed that death was better then sin. One of them was actually
killed for defending their purity.
St. Dominic Savio was a young student of St. John Bosco. His greatest
dream was to be a priest like his mentor. Unofortunately, Dominc passed
away when he was only fifteen years old. Before his death he left a
great motto for others to live by as he did: Death rather than sin.
Dominic had a great respect for chastity. Once, when some of the older
boys at St. John Bosco's school where looking at pronography, Dominic
burst into their circle and tore up their pictures. He is a great
person for young men suffering from pronography to pray to. He will
help them find the strength to resist the strong temptations of the
Devil.
St. Maria Goretti also believed that death was better than sin. She was
also fifteen when she died, however, her death was not the peaceful
death many would hope for a young girl. She was ruthlessly stabbed to
death by a young man who wanted her to have sex with him. Maria
valiantly refused to commit this sinful act with him. The young man
stabbed her twelve times then left her bleeding. Maria is one of the
most wonderful saints for young girls to pray to for in her they find
the strength to protect God's greatest gift to them: their sexuality.
When you are faced with sexual temptations, pray to these two great
saints. Follow their example and make their motto your own: Death
rather than sin.
