New Articles + New Links = NEW COMPASS!!
Letter from the Editor
Volume 2 Issue 13 November 20007
Fellow Trailblazers,
What a busy fall this had been!! I must admit, that the first semester
of freshmen year in college is much tougher then I expected it to be.
That being the case, Fr. Paul Ward, the director of Trailblazers, and I
have decided that the Compass will be coming out once a month, instead
of the originally planned, every two weeks. It was just getting to be
too much for me to handle. I would ask that all of you please pray for
me as I try to find time to work on the Compass as well my schoolwork
and my job. Those of you who have gone through the collage expierence
no doubt know what I am talking about and those of you haven't will no
doubt someday understand and sypmathize.
Now, time for some good news. The Compass is improving!! I hope you all
noticed the numerous links found on the left column of the issue. There
are the usual links: Papal Monthly Intentions, Past Issues of the
Compass, ect. But there are also more links now. I have tried to
arrange them in a way that will be easy for you to see them. At the top
of the column you have the links I just mentioned. In the middle are
links to both National and International News. This includes news
regarding bishops in American and also what is going on the Vatican.
Last, but not certainly not least, is news about World Youth Day
2008!!!! I have been able to find some very interesting links regarding
this subject and it is my hope that you will find them as intreguing as
I did.
In the middle column, there are two articles that I wish to draw your
attention to. I made the headings very large, so they are very hard to
miss, but I believe they are important enough to mention twice. The
first article is about a movie coming out in December that some of you
may have already heard about, The Golden Compass. I myself I have seen
previews for it and though that it seemed like an interesting story,
even if it was geared toward a younger audience. Just a few days ago,
however, I received an e-mail from someone I trust warning me NOT to go
see this movie. Interested, I asked Fr. Paul what he had heard about
this new movie. He in turn, asked Hilary Long, who is 15 and traveling with Trailblazers to World Youth Day 2008, to write an
article about it. The article is short and to the point. After reading
it, I was convinced that this will be one movie I will most denfinately
stear clear of this holiday season.
Do not be discouraged though. There is a movie that you can see and
that I would HIGHLY recommend seeing. It is called simply, Bella. The
link I have provided is to a Christian movie review guide that I have
found to be very helpful in discerning what to see and what not to see.
While their views on religon do not always agree with my views, they
have very good remarks to make on other important issues. I have put
this review into the Compass because it gives people a good idea of
what to expect from this movie. I just wanted to add, that while I have
not yet seen the movie myself, I hope to do so some time this week,
most of my family and friends have already seen it and cannot stop
praising it. My mother thought that it was excently well done. The
acting was good, she said, and the story line very moving. Most of my
friends have declared it a "tear jerker". Please support this movie!!
Hollywood needs to know that good movies like this, will no trash and
good values, are worth making and will bring them money.
God Bless You All!
