Who can go?
- Ages 16-30, exceptions dealt with on an individual basis
- Youth
who are under 16 on the day of the departure are MOST WELCOME generally
required to come with one of their parents. As we will be in a foreign
country, this is in the interest of the youth himself or herself.
- Older than 30 are welcome; be aware that the trip will require both camping and much walking.
- The ages are chosen from the general guidelines of World Youth Day
Why Go?
- Share your faith, gifts and friendship with youth from close and abroad; also share the experience of the early missionaries
- Participation and hospitality of Canadian youth and Catholic parishes on route
- Enjoy the beauty of God’s creation while hiking and canoeing
- Grow in faith, hope and love, and in understanding your vocation and mission in life
- The experience of the organizers guarantees an outstanding experience of faith, charity, culture and so much more:
- Trailblazers has a growing tradition of outstanding youth pilgrimages, including World Youth Day trips
- A
route exists in Canada, whereon 1,100 pilgrims yearly walk from Toronto
to Midland on pilgrimage; the same organizers, led by Mr. John
Zurakowski, are helping organize the trip and will accompany the
Trailblazers
What to expect?
- Three days of hiking and canoeing, like the missionaries way back when
- Daily prayers, including the Catholic Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, Rosary, theological discussions and more
- A three-day retreat before the pilgrimage,
June 15-17, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Detroit. It is a
Friday evening until Sunday noon. Nocturnal adoration, and separation
of young men and young ladies in sleeping quarters. A $15 fee will
be required (subject to change) to provide for meals and services
during the pilgrimage. This retreat is mandatory, as prayeful
preparation is the only way to make this pilgrimage bear fruit in the
souls of those who participate.
- Layout of the week, calendar and schedule:
- Monday: Morning, depart on bus from Detroit. Afternoon, Retreat at Henry Karr Farms (Bondhead, Ontario), dinner and discussion
- Tuesday: Hiking starts, through trails and small communities
- Wednesday: Trails almost the whole day, either today or tomorrow we hope to be able to canoe part of the trip.
- Thursday: More hiking, perhaps arrival from East at Shrine
- Friday: Visit at Shrine of Martyrs and local related sites
- Saturday: Visit at Shrine of Martyrs and local related sites
- Sunday: Very early Mass and breakfast, bus to Niagara Falls for lunch and afternoon visit; Drive home to Detroit, late arrival
- Perhaps:
local parishes will support, collaborate or contribute; some Canadian
priests expressed interest in participating; John Zurkowski and
volunteers will aid; looking for parents to accompany with support
vehicles (vans and mini-vans are best); charity of the faithful along
the way.
How much does it cost?
- Cost of $550 for entire week
- $150 non-refundable down payment to hold your place. (Late comers may inquire whether places still open.)
- $400 in full by May 28, 2007. This covers food, transportation, Christian Prayer book, and 1 Trailblazers T-shirt.
- $15 for the June 15-17, 2007 Triduum retreat

- Bring some spending money, at your own discretion:
